Applications will be reviewed and vetted for selection by the SXSW EDU team, who will select a lineup of short films to be screened. Submissions are evaluated on many factors, but selections are largely based on the following criteria:
- Technical Aspects: Is the short film of outstanding craftsmanship, and does it demonstrate a level of competence in all elements of the filmmaking process, including but not limited to cinematography, sound, and shot composition?
- Creativity: Is this short film original in its storytelling and characters?
- Coherence: Does this short film show an understanding of pacing and continuity?
- Message and Theme: Does the short film clearly communicate an idea or give the audience any takeaways after viewing? Will this film resonate with a larger audience?
- Dialogue: Does this film have compelling character and/or narrator communication that translates well on screen?
